When converting to a better and larger brake system, standard brake lines are usually too short. From us, we offer steel braided brake lines in the length of your choice and the connections / tips of your choice.

Thus, during a conversion of your vehicle, you have the possibility to place the brake lines according to your wishes. The brake lines have not only a better optics, but also a steel sheath that avoids a loss of pressure. Thus, the pressure point during braking can be much better controlled.

Advantages compared to original brake lines:

  • no loss of pressure when braking. Exact pressure point 
  • easy assembly. The original line is simply replaced by the braided steel line
  • no swelling as with rubber lines
  • cost savings, because the braided steel lines do not need to be changed every 3 or 5 years
  • shorter braking

  • How do I determine the length?
  • The safest way to determine the length of a steel braided brake line is to ensure that the line is not under tension in any driving situation – neither when fully extended nor when steering. The best way to do this is with a flexible wire as a "template."

    Step-by-Step: Determine the Correct Length

    1. Securely lift the vehicle

    • Secure the car on a lifting platform or with a jack + jack stands.

    • Remove the wheel so you have a clear view of the layout.

    1. Bring to "maximum extension"

    • It is important to know the state in which the line needs the most length: wheel hangs freely (fully extended).

    • This ensures that the future steel braided line is never under tension.

    1. Lay the wire as a pattern

    • Take a stable but easily bendable wire (e.g., 2–3 mm) or alternatively a flexible cable.

    • Hold the wire at the connection on the vehicle (body/line connection/distributor) and form it along the planned line route.

    1. Route like the original – but with extra slack

    • If the original line is still installed: simply lead parallel to it – this is usually the best, proven way.

    • Form a gentle curve (no sharp bends/tight radii) so that:

      • the line doesn’t chafe,

      • it doesn’t touch the strut/tire,

      • and it doesn’t become tight when extending.

    1. Route to the brake caliper

    • Route the wire up to the connection on the brake caliper (or holder on the caliper/hose mount).

    1. Check steering (super important on the front axle)

    • Now check the wire route when:

      • Steering left fully

      • Steering right fully

    • The wire must not be tight, pulling, or hitting anywhere.

    • If necessary, adjust the curve slightly so that there is enough slack at full lock.

    1. Measure

    • Remove the wire and measure the length along the wire shape (best with a measuring tape).

    • This length corresponds to the required line length including the smooth curve.

    Practical Tip

    Better to be slightly too long than too short. A line that has a bit more curve is not critical – a too-short line can become taut under extension/steering and that's exactly what we want to avoid.

  • What is the cost of repressing a steel braided line?
  • The crimping of the cables costs 29.95? per connection + shipping costs!

  • How long do the cables need to be at a minimum?
  • In order for the pipes to be crimped, we need a minimum length of 12cm

  • Why is there no ring fitting?
  • We deliberately refrain from using ring fittings because the use of ring fittings in the automotive sector has not proven successful. The best example is that no car manufacturer uses ring fittings originally, but always straight fittings. Ring fittings are only used in the engine area.

    The following points are decisive for why we do not use ring fittings:

    1. Ring fittings require an additional banjo bolt, which means that a brass gasket is needed on the bottom and top. Unlike direct connections, this can lead to sealing problems. Our direct fittings seal with a cone and not just the surface.

    2. Direct fittings are significantly cheaper because no additional banjo bolts and gaskets are needed.

    With a bent fitting, the measurement is always taken to the center of the hole, with straight fittings to the end.

  • Why can't I choose between concave and convex?
  • Our fittings are so-called hybrids, which means each connection is suitable for concave (valley) and convex (hill). This way, you can't go wrong when making a choice. You only need to know whether you have an internal or external thread.

  • Does the steel braided line also fit other vehicles?
  • Yes – basically the braided steel line can also fit many other vehicles if the connection data matches. In practice, many manufacturers use very similar thread sizes for brake line fittings, so using them across different models is often possible.

    What really matters

    To ensure the line fits securely and tightly, you need to match three main points:

    1. Thread size / connection

    • The key factor is what thread your vehicle has at the connection points (e.g., at the fixed line connection or brake caliper).

    • This thread size must match the fittings of the line.

    1. Sealing surface (concave or convex)

    • Often, the problem is not the thread, but the sealing shape on the counterpart:

      • concave (valley) or

      • convex (hill)

    • Our fittings are so-called “hybrid” connections. This means: Each connection is designed to reliably seal with both concave and convex sealing surfaces. This makes the line significantly more versatile.

    1. Length and routing

    • You need to determine the required length suitable for your vehicle (ideally as described above: fully extend, simulate routing, check steering).

    • Only if the line is long enough and can be routed cleanly is it truly suitable.

    How to quickly check if it fits

    • Determine the thread size on the vehicle (and compare it with the data of the line)

    • Measure the line length

    • Check the technical data in the product description – there you will find all the details about the line and the connections.

  • Two lens gaskets were supplied with the Steelflex lines. Where exactly are these installed?
  • The 2 lens seals are not automatically always installed, but only when they are needed to compensate for the sealing cone on the respective counterpart. Background: Depending on the vehicle/connection, there are different flaring or sealing shapes – and that's exactly why the lenses are always provided as a precaution.

    What are the lens seals for?

    They serve as a compensating piece when the cone on the connection (counterpart) does not perfectly match the steel braided hose. This ensures that the connection seals cleanly.

    Where are they used?

    If needed, the lens seals are placed directly into the connection with internal thread – that is, into the “female” fitting on the vehicle/distributor/brake caliper, before you screw in the hose.
    The hose presses the lens into its seat when tightened, thus creating the seal.

    When do you need them – and when not?

    • F flare (DIN/ISO cone, usually fits):
      Lens seals are not needed.
      The hose usually seals directly over the matching cone here.

    • E flare:
      Lens seals must be used.
      Simply place it into the internal thread, then screw in the hose and tighten as usual.

    Installation note

    The installation direction does not matter – you can install the lens either way, it makes no difference.
